Pitchforks and Torches
Matt Taibbi ponders the peasant mentality of the winger crowd. Read the entire piece but this is the take away:
But actual rich people can’t ever be the target. It’s a classic peasant mentality: going into fits of groveling and bowing whenever the master’s carriage rides by, then fuming against the Turks in Crimea or the Jews in the Pale or whoever after spending fifteen hard hours in the fields. You know you’re a peasant when you worship the very people who are right now, this minute, conning you and taking your shit. Whatever the master does, you’re on board. When you get frisky, he sticks a big cross in the middle of your village, and you spend the rest of your life praying to it with big googly eyes. Or he puts out newspapers full of innuendo about this or that faraway group and you immediately salute and rush off to join the hate squad. A good peasant is loyal, simpleminded, and full of misdirected anger.

Shrieking Shriekers Turn Up The Volume
You know I'm still chuckling over this Human Events piece John Cole linked in this thread.
State governors—looking down the gun barrel of long-term spending forced on them by the Obama “stimulus” plan—are saying they will refuse to take the money. This is a Constitutional confrontation between the federal government and the states unlike any in our time.
In the first five weeks of his presidency, Barack Obama has acted so rashly that at least 11 states have decided that his brand of “hope” equates to an intolerable expansion of the federal government’s authority over the states. These states—“Washington, New Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, California…Georgia,” South Carolina, and Texas—“have all introduced bills and resolutions” reminding Obama that the 10th Amendment protects the rights of the states, which are the rights of the people, by limting the power of the federal government. These resolutions call on Obama to “cease and desist” from his reckless government expansion and also indicate that federal laws and regulations implemented in violation of the 10th Amendment can be nullified by the states.
Whoa! Eleven states have introduced legislation? The states have done what? OK I know what the author intended to for us to understand. As others have pointed out some of the states have Democratic majorities and the GOP'ers have a few nuts willing to saw off the branch they are standing on. Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that legislation was introduced to impeach GWB more than once. We all know how far it got--even with a Democratic majority in Congress.

Oh Goody!
On the right hand side column of this blog is a new Google gadget to help you search a given word and find out what your favorite wingnut is writing about. Have fun!
