Louisiana Democrats Launch Petition to Defund David Vitter

Why stop with ACORN?

We, the undersigned, hereby call on the U.S. Congress to immediately* pass the following resolution to defund David Vitter:

RESOLUTION

Prohibiting the use of federal funds to support David Vitter

Whereas David Vitter has admitted engaging in criminal activity while in public office;

Whereas David Vitter has used taxpayer-funded government facilities to engage in criminal activity;

Whereas David Vitter has been the subject of repeated criminal and civil investigations by federal and local law enforcement;

Whereas David Vitter is currently ranked 85th in effectiveness in the U.S. Senate and has no significant legislative accomplishments;

Whereas David Vitter appears driven more by a desire to score political points than enact legislation that would benefit the people of Louisiana;

Whereas Louisiana taxpayers should not be forced to fund David Vitter’s criminal activity or partisan political grandstanding;

Resolved, that it is the sense of the U.S Congress that all federal funding of David Vitter should be prohibited.

Palin Did It For The Money

Hey Mark! Stop Digging!

Mark Sanford, in a rambling statement last week admitted to having an affair. Now in an apparent attempt to come clean.as it were, Sanford also admits in an interview with the AP that he was interested in women other than the woman he had the affair with. He then goes on to say this in the interview:

During an emotional interview at his Statehouse office with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Sanford said Chapur is his soul mate but he's trying to fall back in love with his wife.

Whoa. That is the way to patch it up with your wife? Admit to the rest of the world that you still love the other woman and that you will now try to fall back in love with your wife? That and the fact that he did not have sexual relations with those other women have got me wondering if this isn't Mark Sanford's" I did not inhale" moment.

Any governor who would leave an entire state with no executive in charge has got to either resign or be removed from office. The other stuff is between him and his wife. Sanford reminds of the complete stranger you meet at a public function and within 2 minutes of talking to them they are telling you all about their alcoholism or drug addiction. Somethings come under the category TMI. And this one is Too Much Information.

How must his wife and kids feel with these additional revelations now in the public sphere? Sheesh.

Shaving the Rump Smooth

DougJ posting at Ballon Juice offers up this latest from our friends in the GOP:

Graham is right. This push toward some sort of conservative orthodoxy required of all who wish to remain in the party will not win elections anywhere but the the Deep South and Idaho. The "purer" the GOP becomes the more likely it is for a right leaning but more centrist party to actually take root. The GOP has until 2012 to get its shit together. Unless they start making for serious ground by then look for a third party to rise.

These guys lost Indiana to the Democrats. Indiana. When a bona fide conservative like Jim Huntsman (who just happens to have moderate 21st century views on a couple a social issue and isn't a rabid climate change denier) resigns from a job that could have been a platform for launching a 2012 Presidential campaign you know the rump has been shaved pretty damned smooth.

Al Giordane:

Some said Obama was crazy, back in 2007 and 2008, to reach out to what conventional wisdom thought was an impenetrable GOP base... Crazy, like a fox.

And that's about right. Obama, the consummate politician is way ahead of his opponents. They still haven't figured him out and they are quickly losing ground. Now that doesn't mean he is a shoo in for 2012 but the opposition grows weaker everyday.

A Sane Voice in the Wilderness?

Eric Cantor:

"President Obama is a great communicator. We understand that," [House Minority Whip Eric Cantor] said in an interview that aired on CNN's State of the Union Sunday. "He's also been very adept at adopting the technology of today to access the youth vote and the younger population of this country. That's the future, and I believe we've got a lot to learn. The Republican Party can't keep doing things the way it always has in terms of technology."

Meghan McCain:

"Simply embracing technology isn't going to fix our problem," the 24-year-old told a gay Republican group last month. "Republicans using Twitter and Facebook isn't going to miraculously make people think we're cool again. Breaking free from obsolete positions and providing real solutions that don't divide our nation further will."

I didn't see the interview but if  Cantor thinks Twitter and Facebook will make the difference he is sadly mistaken. Inept leadership is the problem, Eric, not how many people follow you on Twitter.

Not BDS

Those on the political left are often accused of suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) when they continually criticize the former Cheerleader and his Gang of War Criminals. Retiring Senator Chuck Hagel cannot be confused with being a liberal and he has some very harsh words for those rat-fuckers. Chuck Hagel is one of the most conservative Senators serving at this moment but he is also an honorable man. He knows a rat when he smells one.

A worthy opposition party to the Democrats would be filled with people like Hagel. Unfortunately its filled with Ted Stevens and Sarah Palins.

The Future of the GOP

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... -- LTC Bill Kilgore

The inteprid Josh Marshall and his wild-eyed liberal cultist followers have unearthed the future of the GOP. It's a beautiful thing. Read the linked article after watching the video.
