Manchester United, No Longer

It looks like The Gays have destroyed another marriage:

The wife of Doug Manchester, the San Diego developer who helped finance the 2008 fight against same-sex marriage in California, has filed for divorce after 43 years of marriage.

But he doesn’t dislike gays and lesbians, he just thinks they should sit in the back of the bus and be happy they live in a free country.

Marriage Equality Marches On In New England (UPDATE, UPDATE II)

Governor Baldacci signs marriage equality bill into law in Maine. Sometime later today the NH House of Representatives is expected to vote on the same bill passed by the NH Senate (with amendments) thus sending it to the governors desk. Lynch has not yet said what he would do with the legislation, although he said he believes the definition of marriage to be between one man and one woman.

UPDATE: Marriage equality bill passed NH House now goes to governor's desk.

If you live in New Hampshire please email the governor and tell him you support the bill and ask him to sign it.

Vermont House Override Vote

The Vermont House voted to override the governor's veto of the marriage equality bill. The vote was 100-49.

UPDATE: The bill now becomes law and for the first time a legislature passes marriage equality and then overrides a governor's veto without any previous court action to provide impetus for the legislation. Congratulations Vermont!

Vermont Senate Override Vote

The Vermont Senate just vote to override the Governor's veto of the marriage equality bill. The vote was 23-5 to override. I listened to the vote live.

Vermont Marriage Equality

The Vermont State Senate is set to vote on an override of the governor's veto of the Marriage Equality bill this morning. The debate should be about 9 a.m. and a vote should follow quickly with the override seeming fairly certain based on the vote to approve the measure. The House, where the override vote is less ceratin, will take up the measure at approximately 10 a.m. You can listen to a live streaming audio at Vermont Public Radio. Click on the More Streams tab in the upper right hand corner at VPR's website and then follow the link to the House or Senate.

Human Dignity

Human dignity wins again.

The [Connecticut] Supreme Court released its historic ruling at 11:30 a.m. Citing the
equal protection clause of the state constitution, the justices ruled that civil
unions were discriminatory and that the state's "understanding of marriage must
yield to a more contemporary appreciation of the rights entitled to
constitutional protection."

Congratulations to all of you in Connecticut now able to have the state recognize your marriages, as marriages, rather than civil unions. Decency and common sense prevailed today.
